 Research purpose

Engineering 3D tissues using oxygen-permeable spheroid plate

Although transplantation of the pancreas and islets is the most efficient treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus, donor shortage is a major limiting factor. Therefore, further studies are needed to establish methods for fabricating three dimensional (3D) tissues in vitro. In this study, we designed spheroid culture plates to rapidly yield high numbers of insulin-producing spheroids. Furthermore, we proposed to fabricate cylindrical tissue (cylindroid) in a hollow fiber using the collected spheroids and followed by transplantation noninvasively.
